Brentford were poised to come away from Villa Park with nothing but a defeat until John Egan (as he has already this season and had for Gillingham regularly) scored to earn a point at Aston Villa.

His 88th-minute effort when he fired home when the ball came to him ensured Brentford gained a one-one draw with him telling the Official Website he was literally buzzing.

If it wasn’t for the fact he was prevented from doing so he would have been in the crowd celebrating with the Bees fans.

‘I can`t really describe the feeling when the ball went in. I was just buzzing. When the ball hit the back of the net I just turned to the fans immediately because I could see how buzzing they were. I would probably have got in the mix with the fans but there were a few bouncers who wouldn`t let me through. It was fantastic for them because they made the trip up here and they have something to go home and celebrate about. It was a sense of relief for the team because it looked like it was slipping away from us. The team is the most important thing and we are all buzzing to get a point back at the end.’

Brentford had the better chances in the first half but it was Aston Villa that went into half time ahead with Egan expressing his disappointment at that. He went onto add the goal was something we merited with that threatened in the first half with the point the least we deserved, we could have ‘nicked all three’ in the end.

This point followed up the win at Brighton on Saturday with a four-point return from two tough away match a very pleasing return with Egan hoping to end a fine week with all three-points when Brentford return to Griffin Park with Preston visiting the Bees.

He concluded.

‘We have had two tough away games at two tough places. Tonight is a good point and if we can capitalise on this point against Preston North End on Saturday then it will be an even better point. You are not going to go to many tougher places that Brighton and Villa and to come away with a win and a draw is decent. We fully believe that we can go anywhere and beat teams. We will take the point. The fans will be very important on Saturday and they need to keep on top of us now and keep egging us on. The home atmosphere has been brilliant so far and hopefully Saturday will be no different. Hopefully we can put in a good performance against a good Preston side and get the win.’

Defeat against Preston, who themselves won in midweek, would be disappointing with a point minimum Brentford would be seeking.

Should that happen six-points would be more than acceptable from these matches for the Bees but another three-points (making it seven from a possible nine) would make it a seven-days beyond expectation wouldn’t it!
