Can Bees provide the best Christmas present?

Brentford play Stevenage in front of a bumper crowd at Griffin Park tomorrow as they bid to go top of League One for Christmas.

The club’s innovative ‘Pay what you Can’ incentive has worked incredibly well with the home sections of the ground largely sold out (although a few shameful punters will undoubtebly be dragged off to Westfield for some last minute Christmas shopping)

Brentford may have the chance to go top of the table IF Tranmere fail to win at Swindon tonight – but sixth placed Stevenage will provide stern opposition.

The Bees lost both league encounters with Stevenage last season, including a 1-0 reverse at Griffin Park, but hopefully things will be different this time around with Uwe Rosler’s team in fine fettle.

Rosler rotated his team for Tuesday’s game against Bradford but few of the fringe players, Stuart Dallas aside, took their chance to shine.

Beesotted predicts recalls for Harlee Dean, Clayton Donaldson, Adam Forshaw and Harry Forrester whilst Toumani Diagouraga and Tom Adeyemi will battle it out for the remaining midfield spot alongside Jonathan Douglas.

Loanees Rob Kiernan and Lee Hodson will return to the squad after being ineligible in the FA Cup midweek but are unlikely to start.

Stevenage lost at home to those awful people from Crawley last weekend and will be keen to return to winning ways themselves as they seek to get their own promotion push back on track – and have been in good away form this term.

Former Bees Darius Charles and Patrick Agyemang should play some part for the visitors although former QPR keeper Chris Day has been sadly absent from action over recent weeks. Gary Phillips – who played just under 150 games for Brentford in the 80s – is Stevenage’s goalkeeping coach.
