Dean Smith has moved to dismiss the suggestion Jota could be allowed to leave Brentford this month following his omission from the squad that was beaten on Saturday. In quotes carried by West London Sport Smith said Jota missed the defeat to Birmingham purely due to injury with his place on the bench taken by Andy Gogia.

Smith wanted Jota involved but a calf strain in training on Friday saw him miss out with the Head Coach happy with the performance shown by Gogia when he came on.

‘He pulled up with a calf strain yesterday in training so unfortunately he couldn’t travel. It would have been nice to have had Jota on the bench to be able to throw on but I was quite pleased with Andy Gogia when he came on. He looked very bright. We’re not looking to sell anybody in the window. We’re just looking forward to the next few games.’

With Smith saying (I think we all know this doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be the case) he isn’t looking to ‘sell anybody’ this month it should put to bed talks about James Tarkowski leaving Griffin Park too?

Burnley have already signed Andre Gray from Brentford this season with the Mirror reporting the Clarets have made an offer for the 23-year-old defender but this initial offer has been rejected….
