The Bees had to settle for a point as the goals stopped flowing at Griffin Park and another high scoring game was not produced. However, credit where credit is due because Wigan defended impressively for a side that had not picked up a point away from home.

From kick off it was clear that Wigan came for a point and that was it. They offered very little going forward but realised that if they opened up at the back they would be punished. This was a new challenge for the Bees team who have never really come up against a team who just parked the bus.

Wigan defender Dan Burn had an excellent game and after 19 minutes made a superb tackle to stop leading goalscorer Scott Hogan from making it 1-0. Vibe followed this up with a fantastic opportunity but lashed at the shot and sent it wide. We dominated possession in the first half but a well organised Latics defence looked calm and comfortable.

It was Egan who came closest for the Bees after the break when his looping header during the second half was cleared off the line by MacDonald. Another defender came close for the Bees late on when Maxim Colin’s powerful shot was spilled by Latics keeper Bogdan.

A point is a point but we can’t help but feel disappointed after how dominant we have been at home in recent weeks.

Dean was quoted in Sky Sports as saying ‘The fact that we are disappointed with a 0-0 and didn’t create as many clear-cut chances as we did on Tuesday is a good thing. It’s also another clean sheet and we were the better side.’

After the international break we head up north to St James’ Park for what promises to be a brilliant encounter.
