Head coach Dean Smith has called on Brentford to build on recent performances and victories when we face Ipswich Town this weekend.

Making the trip to Portman Road with four defeats on the spin behind us, following back to back wins over Nottingham Forest and Bolton Wanderers, Smith called on the team to be at their best as we faced Mick McCarthy’s Play Off hopefuls.

Speaking to the Official Site in his pre game press conference, the gaffer was content with the renewed confidence in the group, and making it three wins on the spin in a game few would expect us to win, would be the perfect boost on top of that as the 2015/16 season comes to an end.

‘The six points were just what we needed and they are what our performances deserved. It gives everyone a bit of a breather but it also gives people renewed confidence and smiles on the faces. Hopefully we can take that into Saturday`s game now against Ipswich Town who are pushing for the Play-Offs. I have a lot of respect for Mick McCarthy and the job that he has done at every football club. He gave me some great advice when I first took over at Walsall and he was at Wolves. I am looking forward to pitting my wits against him. We have got to be at our best because they are fighting to get into the Play-Offs. Every game in the Championship so far has been a physical test. There are a lot of physical players about in the league but we have got a good technical ability to our play as well. Historically the pitch at Portman Road has always been fantastic so hopefully it will be the same and we can play some of our football.’

Smith again went on to credit the hard work being put in by the side, even during that losing streak we were on, and he’s happy that this hard work has continued and come to the fore more in recent games.

‘I said after Saturday that there were a lot of ice packs being used and it was the same after the Bolton game. All credit to the players that they got themselves back out there after a tough game against Nottingham Forest and acquitted themselves really well. It was a light training session today for the the ones that started on Tuesday. For the ones that didn`t start they put a good hours training in to get the minutes under their belt. Tomorrow we will get ready and prepare for a tough game against Ipswich Town.’

Adding.

‘It would be brilliant for the players to get three wins in a row and it would be what they have deserved for the effort and work that they have put in. We never lost belief or sight in what we are trying to do. They have been consistent on the training ground and they have got their rewards.’

In terms of team news, Smith confirmed that he would be without John Swift and Leandro Rodriguez for the game as they are still struggling with the injuries they have picked up.

Swift picked up a cut whilst on international duty and the decision has been taken to leave the stitches in for longer, whilst Leandro picked up a muscle injury in the victory over Nottingham Forest.

He’s hopeful both will come back into contention for next weekend’s game, but other injury issues remain longer term than that.
