It’s been reported over the weekend that Sheffield Wednesday are interested in former Brentford skipper Harlee Dean.

Sky Sports have reported that their sources ‘understand’ that with the 26 year old centre back being in the final year of his contract at Griffin Park that Brentford would potentially be open to a deal in the region of £2million plus add ons, and they state that Wednesday are the latest club to consider an offer following interest in him from Hull City and Leeds United.

Talks over a new contract have been held though but it’s believed he’s waiting for interest in him to present itself so he can assess all his options.

Earlier in the week, head coach Dean Smith confirmed that midfielder Nico Yennaris had been named the new skipper for 2017/18 because of the doubts surrounding Dean’s future.

‘I had a chat with Harlee when we started pre-season. At the moment he’s in a bit of limbo with contract negotiations. With that going on it’s right that someone else carries the armband. He’s behind that and accepts that well.’

Smith confirmed that there had been no offers for him at this stage though.

‘We’ve had no bids from anybody. His representatives have been in talks with the football club but I’m sure his representatives are also pitching him round to other clubs as well. He’s fully committed to the cause and I’ve got a great relationship with Harlee.’
