Following today’s clash between Hull City and Brentford, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Hull City hosted Brentford at the KCOM Stadium for a 3pm kick off on Saturday December 9, with the hosts coming from a goal down to take all three points.

A David Meyler own goal early on in the second half gave Brentford the advantage, but efforts from Kamil Grosicki, Seb Larsson and Jackson Irvine gave them a three one advantage as time ticked away. John Egan grabbed a second for the visitors and the scoring ended three two.

The game marks a winning start for new Hull manager Nigel Adkins with him replacing Leonid Slutsky earlier in the week and the side grabbed their first win in the last eight games.

Brentford now sit ten points shy of the play off positions.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Simon Hooper blew the final whistle, Hull City head coach Nigel Adkins explained.

‘The players were top drawer. Obviously the results haven’t been going as well as we would have liked but the players have done excellent today. They showed some great character and team spirit which is what you need first and foremost. It was a test of character going 1-0 down after the run of results we’ve had. The players deserve great credit. It’s a great start.’

Brentford head coach Dean Smith in his comparitive interview explained.

‘For 49 minutes it wasn’t very difficult at all. Until the lad (Grosicki) scores a wonder goal and it became a game-changer. We felt this was an opportunity for us to come and get three points, and I felt like it was going to be. I was stood on the side quite comfortable for 49, 50 minutes then we pressed the self-destruct button.’
