Brentford have announced a new long-term deal for midfielder Nico Yennaris, who still had two years on his existing Bees deal, previously extended last year.

Arriving at Griffin Park from Arsenal in 2014 for an undisclosed fee, Yennaris’ impact at Brentford, an ever present under Dean Smith last season, has convinced the club to tie him down to a new four year contract.

Smith told the Official Website: ‘We are really pleased that Nico has agreed the contract extension. He has become an integral part of the team, as his appearances last season have shown. He is continuing to improve in all aspects of his game and is becoming an accomplished goal scoring midfielder in the Championship.’

Yennaris, 24, who would have been out-of-contract at the end of the season after next, is now secured on a deal until 2021, admittedly for what contracts are worth. However, should interest be expressed in the midfielder Brentford are in a strong position.

He scored six goals in 46 appearances last season and has scored eight in 93 in total so far.

Yennaris came to Griffin Park having managed four games at Arsenal, including his only Premier League outing against Manchester United, after coming through the Gunners’ set up, joining the North London side as a seven year old.
