Brentford boss Dean Smith has become the latest to show an interest in Millwall’s Fred Onyedinma, already linked with rivals QPR and Watford, according to Get West London.

Having helped Millwall to Championship promotion via the League One play-offs last season with six goals in 54 appearances, Onyedinma is technically out-of-contract at the end of the month.

A new deal has been offered to the winger and, despite all the speculation surrounding his future, Millwall boss Neil Harris has said he was confident of keeping Onyedinma when it previously looked as if he could leave the Lions.

Harris told the News Shopper, via Get West London: At one point, it looked as though we may lose Fred. But now it looks as though we may be able to keep him. That’s what we want. He is a talented boy with a very bright future – we want that to be at this club. We want to continue working with him.’

Now an established first team regular at Millwall, Onyedinma will step up to Championship level with or without a move to Griffin Park. Then again, if Watford interest amounted to anything, he could bypass this and go straight to the Premier League?
