International Call Ups For Bees Players

Noah Roper writes about the two international call ups for Brentford this week and how he thinks they will do on the International stage.

It was international call up day today, and one name on the lists will have stood out to Brentford fans. Alex Pritchard, the loanee from Spurs has been called up to the squad for England U21`s crucial Euro 2015 playoff tie against a strong Croatian team. The 21 year old has been a regular starter for Brentford in recent weeks, but seems to have been managed well by Warbs, often not playing the whole match in what I assume is an attempt to prevent burnout; however he has been a creative force in the attacking midfielder`s role.

He has scored one goal for the Bees so far this season, with Warbs heaping praise onto the youngster whom he called ‘very good tactically and technically` before adding that ‘Alex will add to the quality in our squad`. Clearly rated highly in the Brentford setup, and after being handed his U21`s debut in September, coming off the bench in 2 wins, Gareth Southgate clearly also sees something in him.

The hope for Brentford fans will be that two wins with Pritchard making appearances will be a massive confidence boost that could hopefully transfer into his performances in a Brentford shirt. There are of course always risks with international duty with players every so often picking up injuries but hopefully Alex can stay out of trouble, both on and off the pitch.

The other Brentford player to have been called up for international duty, currently at MK Dons, is Will Grigg. The 23 year old featured regularly for Brentford in last year`s promotion campaign, but clearly Warbs doesn`t believe is quite good enough for the championship, at least not yet, and he will be looking for good performances for Northern Ireland in their European Qualifying matches to prove that he can add something to the team.

How much do you think Pritchard will feature for the U21s? Does Will Grigg have what it takes to return to a (hopefully) championship team next year? Please comment any thoughts.

Pritchard’s played very well lately and deserves the callup. Not too sure about Grigg, clearly he’s got potential though
