Centre back Marcel Eger has left Griffin Park according to a German news report with his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The former St Pauli man came to Brentford last summer but initially struggled with the hustle and bustle of English football.

Eventually his form returned and the team kept 11 clean sheets in Eger’s 19 starts with the German showing both composure on the ball and good tackling ability.

A turning point in his time at The Bees appeared to come in January during defeat at Huddersfield where Eger was literally turned inside out by Jordan Rhodes for their winning goal.

Since then he has been largely absent from the first team squad – frozen out according to Eger himself, something he found ‘inexplicable and unsatisfactory’.

Beesotted wishes Eger good luck in his future career, which may now take him to America and the New England Revolution.
