It was being reported yesterday that Brentford were in pole position to win the race for young Exeter City striker Ollie Watkins.

Having been named the EFL’s Young Player of the Season in League Two in 2016/17, the 21 year old striker has certainly started making a name for himself as in 61 starts and 17 substitute appearances, he’s found the net for Paul Tisdale’s side 34 times.

The Bristol Post were one of a number to report that Brentford were now set to win the race for his signature.

They cite our longstanding interest in him where in recent years we haven’t quite been able to get a deal over the line, but it seems we may have overcome that and having prepared our first offer that will soon go in and Brentford are apparently confident it will be successful.

Whether that comes to pass remains to be seen, but we’ll certainly know where the deal fell down from previous years so can factor that into any new offer.
